Wallace Hume Carothers is a talented young chemist. In 1930, when he conducted a polyester experiment, he found that a molten polymer could be drawn into fibrous filaments. More importantly, even after cooling, the fiber is stretched several times longer than the original length, and the strength and elasticity of the fiber are greatly improved.

Under his efforts, polyamide 66 was born. This polymer has a high melting point and is insoluble in common solvents. Due to its structure and properties closer to natural silk, the drawn fiber has a silk appearance and gloss, and its abrasion resistance and strength exceed those of any fiber at the time, and the raw material The price is also relatively cheap, and DuPont decided to develop its products.

On October 27, 1938, DuPont officially announced that the world's first synthetic fiber was officially born, and the synthetic fiber of polyamide 66 was named nylon, namely nylon.

Nylon is a kind of synthetic fiber with broad development prospects. It can be used to produce elastic nylon stockings, gloves, hats, etc., and can be blended with cotton and wool or interwoven into various soft products, such as common on the market. Damask quilt, quilted silk, etc.

In addition to nylon, there are also polyester, chlorin, polypropylene, acrylic, vinylon and aramid in the large synthetic fiber family, which are widely used in various industries. For example, we call it “the good” polyester, which is widely used in clothing and bedding; acrylic fiber, which is called “artificial wool”, is widely used in clothing and decoration; the strength is 5-6 times that of steel wire, and the quality is only steel wire. 1/5 of aramid is used to make bulletproof outerwear and fire jackets.

At present, synthetic fibers have been widely used in various aspects of the national economy such as aerospace, electromechanical, construction, automotive, home, clothing and sporting goods. With the development of science and technology, many new synthetic fibers with special functions are being developed, such as anti-ultraviolet fiber, negative ion fiber and intelligent fiber. The application field is also expanding, and the world will become more beautiful because of synthetic fiber.
